Open-air Walking Tour of Florence by Florence private guide

This is not one of the many Guided Walking Tour of Florence! This is not one of the many Renaissance Walks! This is not one of the many Tours of the city! … This is my tailor made guided Open-air Walking Tour of Florence!

By the close of this wonderful walk, you will have experienced the eyes and heart of the city!

(from North to South, to West and to East of the city)

Noth side

DuomoBaptistery (with its 3 famous doors, one of which is called the " gate of Paradise"), the Duomo's bell tower

Through Via Calzaiuoli and stop at the church of Orsanmichele. A "strange" church :)

Piazza Signoria (one of the most beautiful square Italy's !) with its Palazzo Vecchio (the Town Hall), the Loggia dei Lanzi. Among the many statues of the square there is one that represents the person who wanted the Uffizi

Through the courtyard of the Uffizi Gallery we will arrive to the Arno river.

Walking to the Ponte Vecchio ( Old Bridge ) and crossing it we will be on the other side of the Arno river, the south side . This area of Florence is known as " Oltrarno".

South side (Oltrarno)

In few steps we reach Palazzo Pitti (Pitti Palace, once the residence of, first, the Duke of Florence, then of Grand Dukes of Tuscany and then of the King of Italy).

We will leave the Pitti Palace and through a small, narrow street ( so typical in this area of Florence) we will reach Piazza Santo Spirito , one of the most "florentine" squares in Florence and the Chiesa di Santo Spirito whose first project was made by Filippo Brunelleschi (the same architect who built the Dome). The Santo Spirito church played a very important role in the life of Michelangelo

Now we are about leaving the " oltrarno" area but we will use another bridge to came back to the north bank of the Arno river : we will cross the famous Ponte Santa Trinita . This bridge was destroyed, as the other bridges of Florence (except the Old Bridge), in World War II but it was reconstructed " were it was " and " how it was " , why?

West side

After crossing the Santa Trinita Bridge we enter Via Tornabuoni (probably the richest street Florence's), with its famous fashion brands.

Once on Via Tornabuoni we will walk to Palazzo Strozzi , one of the most beautifull renaissance palaces in Florence. The Strozzi family was one of the reachest family of Florence. We will walk through the courtyard of the palace, a typical " renaissance courtyard ".

From the courtyard of the Strozzi Palace we will be in few steps at Piazza della Repubblica . There wasn't a square here until the second half of the 1800,

what was there before being a square?

East side

After Piazza della Repubblica we walk to Piazza Santa Croce (the square of the Holy Cross ) with its famous Chiesa di Santa Croce ( church of the Holy Cross ) where we will end our tour.

This Walking Tour considers to see the sites from outside.

Of course you can, and the rate will be recalculated. All my tours are tailor made.

Can we mix this tour with other tours?

Yes you can. Maybe you could add a visit to the Brancacci Chapel  !

I have a problem at the knees, can we have a break during the tour?

Sure we can, as many times as you like !

  Can we wear heels?

Hmmm , I would suggest walking shoes :)

Is this tour too boring for kids?

I think that every tour can be boring or not it depends how a tour guide is able to be “on” during the tour. Besides that you know your kids better than I do :)
